Woke up this morning with either a cold or hay fever or a nice combo of the two, ooh that reminds me Maud got her first cold over the weekend, it broke my heart to see her so bunged up and waking up every couple of hours, she still managed a good smile or two in between the nose wipes though and it seems like she might have inherited my immune system too as Silje says she is getting better already.
Anyhow, slow start to the day as i went out to get supplies, if i was going to sand i needed face masks and erm a new sander as mine decided to pack up sometime last autumn. So off to the shops to pick up one of these and some other stuff i needed.
Couldn't resist a blast around the ring road in the Triumph either so that took up some time too.
Spent eons in the DIY store waiting for somebody to measure out 2m of wallpaper to patch the bareness behind where the cupboards were. Spent more eons in the plumbing shop buying a new kitchen tap as the lady behind the counter, although very helpful couldn't answer my questions so she had to phone half the world to find out, did you have a Norwegian lady phone you today all confused, if so that was her.
Stuff bought, back home to don the face masks and start sanding the window.... couple of hours with the sander later and i'm done. I always thought the windows were painted white..they turned out to be battle ship grey...eeww. Now the blurb on the box of this new super duper sander says
Cyclonic Dust Canister to maximise dust collection efficiency and faster task completion
Now the only cyclonic action i saw today was the huge cloud of paint particles swirling around my desert coloured kitchen depositing themselves on every sufrace in the whole room.
Faster task completion ...yeah right, i spent the next hour vacuum cleaning everything. Anyhow that's one of the worst jobs over with.
Also decided to pull off some more wallpaper as i figured it would look slightly better with only two visible joins as opposed to four....time will tell. It was also a nice little time waster while i geared myself up for the first coat of undercoat on the windows....mind numbing job but as my dad taught me 'If a job's worth doing it's worth doing properly' and 'Preparation is the key to a good result'. Now obviously when i was a kid i just heard this as 'blah blah blah....' But now i know better and poor little Maud is going to hear the same from me too.
And right on cue in the middle of painting the Postal service boys turned up with what seemes like 10000 boxes containing our new kitchen, that wasted an hour or so.
The rest of the day was spent scoffing pizza, filling in holes in the wall, loads and loads of them, and soting through a few of the thousands of boxes in the living room.
Tomorrow is: (hopefully) finish painting the window, 1 more undercoat and 2 or 3 top coats. Each takes about an hour.
Clean the ceiling and walls of all the grease, hey it's a kitchen it gets greasy.
Paint the ceiling and maybe paint the walls if i have time, i'm back to work next week so got to get a move on really.
Se ya all tomorrow?
Here's how our dining room looks with the contents of the kitchen dumped in it.
And this is the freshly sanded and painted window and polka dot filler walls...look any different?

no surprise that your old sander is broken, you are one of only a small number that actually use your tools a good amount for good old fashioned DIY. Things are just not built the same these days, tisk. Looks like youre having lots of fun and cant wait for Maud and Silje to be back to inspect your handywork... ;-)
