Home alone

Well here i am....... a house husband. I thought i had explained this on the blog a while ago but looking back i can't see it anywhere so maybe i didn't. So for those of you that don't know already...here's the deal.
Silje has gone back to college to take a one year course in psychiatric nursing and i get to stay at home for 6 months with Maud. WOOOOHOOO!
She will hopefully get a place at nursery in March 2007.
Sound like a good deal? well it gets better... Silje's work are paying her course fees plus she gets her basic wages whilst studying..... theres more... i still get paid 80% of my wages too....you've just gotta love Norway.
So here i am into my second day as playing mum and Maud is still OK and has all her limbs intact.

Our first outing together yesterday as the Matty and Maud solo show was to get Maud a British birth certificate, sadly i wasn't allowed to take any photos at, or indeed anywhere near the embassy (I think they must have been on code Ernie alert or something) and both me and Maud had to be searched and scanned before we were allowed in.
Do you know how much it cost me to register my daughter as british citizen?
Forget any idea about it being free . oh no it cost... £100 !!! and they didn't accept cards either, only hard cash. I don't know what kind of dodgy operation they are running at the British embassy here in Oslo but seems like a licence to print money to me.
Anyway Maud is now a dual national, albeit one with only a Norwegian passport (no point in forking out for one of those as well now is there?) but still, she'll be getting a British birth certificate so she can pay for her own passport if she wants one when she's older.

Today we went to the Botanical gradens (which we are lucky enough to live 5 minutes walk from) and had a wander round. Unfortunately it appeared to be noise pollution day today as there were noisy builders and zillions og nattering Japanese tourists.
Still, we found ourselves a quiet corner and i read my book while Maud snoozed for a couple of hours. (Hard work this parenting lark)

Maud awakes and tries to pull the arms off the wooden man.

It wasn't me ...honest mister. Posted by Picasa
